About The Degree:
Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) in Clinical Psychology
The Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D) is built upon the
philosophy in which the primary objective of the training program
is to produce competent, well-rounded psychologists whose practice
of professional psychology is rooted in a depth of self-knowledge,
breadth of world views, and an abiding commitment to honoring and
exploring the diverse dimensions of human experience.
This training is based on the Practitioner Model
of professional education which prepares students for the integrated,
general practice of psychology. Unlike the Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy
in Clinical Psychology) which is heavily laden with research technique
and focus, our curriculum is heavily focused on training for hands
on clinical application of skills, and less focused on research
and academic issues.
Our emphasis is on creating excellent practitioners
who can treat a variety of patient populations in six competency
areas considered fundamental to the practice of psychology such
as: relationship, assessment, intervention, research and evaluation,
consultation/education, and management/supervision.
